11 Verses Regarding Elections

With the the November 3rd election looming, I thought today I would share some verses regarding voting and more precisely out duties as American citizens, who are also Christians.

Amidst the noise of this long and contentious election season, let God’s Word speak to you and encourage you. Don’t scan through it, but read through it and remember that these are God’s words. His Word is louder than any other word in this world.

  God is in Control

  • “ Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his.He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. - Daniel 2:20-21 (NIV)
  • The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. - Psalm 103:19 (NIV)
  •

    Forgive US

  • if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. - 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)
  • Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people. - Proverbs 14:34 (NIV)
  •
    Respect Authority
  • Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” - Matthew 22:21 (NIV)
  • Make the Master proud of you by being good citizens. Respect the authorities, whatever their level; they are God’s emissaries for keeping order. It is God’s will that by doing good, you might cure the ignorance of the fools who think you’re a danger to society. Exercise your freedom by serving God, not by breaking the rules. Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government.- 1 Peter2:13-17 (MSG)
  • Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone. - Titus 3:1-2 (NIV)
  • All of you must yield to the government rulers. No one rules unless God has given him the power to rule, and no one rules now without that power from God. 2 So those who are against the government are really against what God has commanded. And they will bring punishment on themselves. 3 Those who do right do not have to fear the rulers; only those who do wrong fear them. Do you want to be unafraid of the rulers? Then do what is right, and they will praise you. Romans 13:1-3 (NCV)
  • Pray For Our Leaders

  • I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. - 1 Timothy 2: 1-6 (NIV)
  • For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers. - Proverbs 11:14 (NIV)
  • “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. - Daniel 2:20-1 (NIV)
