January 1

In the beginning, God created the sky and the earth. - Genesis 1:1 (NCV)

 Read Genesis 1

As we begin a new year, let's get closer to God. Today's scripture, like the new year, is the very beginning. In the beginning, we see the power of God, the Creator of everything. The Son of God, who later would be sent to earth as the little baby in a manger, was with him (Genesis 1:26). Throughout chapter 1 we see the power of God in action, as He takes a vast void of nothingness and creates the Universe, Earth and all that is in it. It is one of the most beautiful things we see in the Bible. God our Creator and King created us mere mortals and gave us authority over the land, fish and wild beasts.  They serve us and feed us, in turn, we are to worship our Creator.  Though in time, through the process of free will, which God gave us, we turned from God.  It is important that we recognize all this and accept Him for who He is and chose Him to be our savior so that we might spend eternity with him.
